Profile(HIGHLIGHT)

I love to experiment with clay because it allows me to express my creativity in a tangible manner. The primary material of my work is porcelain. I fell in love for its pure fineness, translucency and strength, but still struggle to embrace its brittleness and lack of plasticity. However, this challenging nature yet somehow leads me to see the reality of surprises, failures, frustrations, excitements and enjoyments of life as a ceramic artist.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Born in Hong Kong, Sita Wong is a ceramist working primarily with porcelain. If art is a reflection of the creator, then her work is a visual collage of influences from East and West. She is interested in creating works where, within one piece, both cultures converse with one another not only through their traditions of material, form and craftsmanship, but also through their original cultural contexts. Her current work elaborates the local culture and craft traditions of Chinese pottery with a modernist and contemporary sense of design. In addition, she is interested to review our culture with her work and to put them into a new dialogue in a creative way.
